Are Company Directors Employed or Self Employed?

Company Directors are not classed as Self Employed by HMRC (although they may be trading as an individual outside of the Ltd Co).

If a Company Director does not have a contract of employment they are classed as an ‘Office Holder’ which is not an employment. If a contract of employment is in place they will be both Office Holder and Employee of the company.
